Villa Pianciani Spoleto - Umbria.
Historical Residences - Hotel de Charme
When, in the late 18th century, the family of the Counts of Pianciani decided to create a sumptuous summer residence on the outskirts of Spoleto, they entrusted the project to the young Giuseppe Valadier, who was soon to become one of Italy's most illustrious architects. Thus the "Delizia di Terraja" was born, a monumental complex which has recently opened its doors to holidaymakers eager to experience the art, history and culture of Umbria.
Today, the rooms once graced by the Counts of Piaciani during their long summer vacations have been transformed, creating one of Umbria's most prestigious period residences. The complex is comprised of the "Casino delle Vecchie Cucine" (the old kitchens), the "Casale dei Rombi", and the "Casino Principale" (the main house), this last has an ornately frescoed lobby, elegant libraries, impressive salons and a neoclassical style chapel.
On the Casino Principale's 'noble floor', there is a splendid terrace overlooking the nearby city of Spoleto, a number of intimate drawing rooms and eight guest bedrooms, which are embellished with rare items of antique furniture. Additional accommodation is available in three studio flats, two of which have their own living-cum-dining room, in the adjacent "Casino delle Vecchie Cucine". Those looking for maximum privacy and comfort, should try to book the "Casale dei Rombi", a beautifully restored country house with swimming pool, situated on the opposite side of the park.
Villa Pianciani is the seat of the Matilde Pianciani Cultural Association, which was created to conserve and promote both the monumental complex and the artistic and cultural heritage of Umbria. The association's activities include residential workshops in decoration, oil painting, glass art and photography, all of which guests staying in the residence are welcome to attend. On request, the elegant halls and grounds of Villa Pianciani provide unique venues for important business events and high profile social gatherings.
History, art, culture and, above all, relaxation. At Villa Pianciani holidays are spent strolling through the residence's historical park, walking amidst the estate's olive trees, or simply lazing by the large swimming pool overlooking the valley. A gorgeous rural retreat for those who simply wish to unwind in the Umbrian countryside, Villa Pianciani is also an excellent base for holidaymakers keen to explore the beautiful towns of Spoleto, Montefalco, Assisi and Spello, all of which are just a few minutes away.
