Residenza del Moro Firenze
Residenza del Moro
The Residenza del Moro is situated in an age-old aristocratic residence in the center of Florence in rooms occupying the entire piano nobile of Palazzo Niccolini-Bourbon.
The oldest documentation regarding the building dates back to the 16th century when the Da Sommaia merchants purchased a number of properties on Via del Moro and transformed them in to an impressive single residence. The coat of arms visible on the corners of the building are those belonging to the Marquis Bourbon of Monte di Santa Maria, who acquired the Palazzo in the early 1700's. Extensive restoration work was undertaken in the late 19th century by the subsequent owner, Marquis Lorenzo Niccolini. Today, the Residenza del Moro still maintains the original 16th century façade and 17th century staircase. Original frescoes, stucco work and antique furniture span the Florentine Renaissance, Baroque, and Romantic periods.
The Residenza del Moro, in addition to being a luxurious period residence of great historical importance, is also home to a magnificent collection of contemporary artwork, where stunning pieces of modern art live side by side with century old masterpieces.
