Palazzo Belmonte Santa Maria di Castellabate
Palazzo Belmonte
Palazzo Belmonte is a historical residence dating back to the 17th century. The building was constructed according to the wishes of the Prince of Belmonte and Marquis of Castellabate, who chose the bay of Santa Maria di Castellabate as the site for his magnificent hunting lodge. In fact, to the rear of the Palazzo, lies an immense park, covering some five hectares of land, land which once served as the royal game reserve.
For over four centuries the residence has belonged to the Granito Pignatelli family. Today's Prince of Belmonte, who resides in a private wing of the Palazzo, has recently opened the doors of his sumptuous home to those visitors who wish experience the luxury of yesteryear, whilst enjoying the stunningly beautiful natural environment of the Cilento. Palazzo Belmonte is located within the National Park of Cilento and just steps away from the crystal clear waters of a sea consistently awarded the European Blue Flag.
The guest bedrooms and suites are still pervaded by the atmosphere of a building once frequented by illustrious members of the European aristocracy; by those Kings of Italy and Spain who came to participate in the Prince of Belmonte's legendary quail hunts. Rare artworks and precious antiques decorate rooms characterised by high, vaulted ceilings and terraces overlooking the sea, the garden, and the flower-filled inner courtyard.
Guest bedrooms are located both in the Palazzo Principale and the Palazzina Edoardo, this latter a fine example of 17th century architecture in which a particularly luxurious apartment has been created. A delightful dependance is located in the park; a wonderfully romantic retreat amidst the green of Palazzo Belmonte's lush Mediterranean gardens.
The hotel's attractive swimming pool is located in a secluded part of the garden where guests are guaranteed the maximum tranquillity. The sea and resort's private beach are just a short walk away, accessed via pleasant pathways through the pine and hibiscus trees.
At Palazzo Belmonte's restaurant, guests are presented with dishes inspired by the great culinary tradition of the Cilento and prepared with only the finest, locally-sourced, ingredients. During the day, the chef's delectable regional specialities can be savoured whilst relaxing by the poolside. In the evenings, the restaurant's sea view terrace provides an idyllic venue for a romantic candlelit dinner.
Whilst sojourning at Palazzo Belmonte, guests have the opportunity to visit the National Park of Cilento and, on request, participate in a nocturnal fishing trip or a gourmet pic-nic on the islet of Licosa. A part of Palazzo Belmonte has been reserved for meetings and small social events.

Palazzo Belmonte Location
Palazzo Belmonte is situated on the outskirts of Santa Maria di Castellabate, Salerno, South of the Amalfi Coast and just a few kilometers from Paestum, on a stunning stretch of coast which terminates in Punta Licosa.
From Palazzo Belmonte all of the principal sites of interest of the Campania region are within easy reach: the Doric temples of Paestum, Palinuro, the Charterhouse of Padula, the picturesque towns and villages of the Amalfi Coast (Ravello, Amalfi, Positano, Atrani, Vietri sul Mare), the city of Naples - dominated by mount Vesuvius, Pompei, Herculaneum, the Royal Palace of Caserta, Sorrento, the island of Capri, and the Oasis of Persano. Not to be missed: a visit to one of the dairies where the area's celebrated Buffalo Mozzarella is produced.
The hotel organises excursions to Punta Licosa, Palinuro, the Baia degli Infreschi, Positano, and Capri. For those wishing to take to the waters in one of the traditional sailing craft, Palazzo Belmonte offers clients the opportunity to rent one of the typical vessels used by the local fishermen, in which to sail as far as Punta Licosa, promontory named after Homer's Leucosia, the siren who saved Ulysses' life.
The waters of Punta Licosa, home to a Marine Reserve (the entire coast is a protected area) and a unique archaeological site, is of certain appeal to divers. The islet with lighthouse, situated directly opposite the promontory, is the ideal site from where to dive in to the waters and swim alongside the walls of the ancient port, now completely submersed by the sea. Untouched by the hand of man, a rare wood of Aleppo pines surrounded by the colors and scents of the Mediterranean shrub extends along the coast as far as the little harbour of Ogliastro Marina.
Visitors should not fail to take a trip to Palinuro's Grotta Azzurra, a wonderful sea cave where to witness a magnificent display of shimmering blue and turquoise light. The Baia degli Infreschi is a charming bay characterised by the lush Mediterranean vegetation which cascades over the rocks. Capri and Positano can be reached by hydrofoil or by private boat, the latter departing directly from Palazzo Belmonte.
