The origins of Lucignano can be traced back to the times of the ancient Romans, when it was known as Lucignanum Longassum. A document dated 1485 demonstrates that both the castle and hamlet of Lucignano d'Asso once belonged to the powerful Piccolomini dynasty. In recent years, Lucignanello Bandini has been the subject of an important restoration project, supervised by one of Italy's most eminent architectural restorers, the architect Paolo Alberto Rossi.
