La Brunelde Domus Magna Fagagna - Friuli.

Historical Residences - Hotel de Charme

La Brunelde Domus Magna Historical Residences Fagagna

Nestled amidst the green hills of Fagagna, Brunelde Domus Magna is no ordinary holiday home; it is a unique period residence steeped in the history and traditions of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Originally built on the ruins of an Ancient Roman villa, over the centuries the edifice has served as medieval watch tower, fortified residence, and elegant hunting lodge for the Counts of Arcano, before being transformed into an exclusive "maison de charme". Today, the merchants, soldiers and pilgrims who once ventured across the hills and through the woods of this corner of Friuli, trudging along the stone road which the Romans built to link Iulia Concordia with the castrum of Artenia, have been replaced by travelers keen to explore the wild and beautiful landscapes of what is still a relatively unknown region of Italy. To these present-day visitors Brunelde Domus Magna offers the very finest, heart-felt hospitality.

Inspired by their passion for medieval history and the age-old traditions of Friuli, today's owners, the Clocchiatti family, personally supervised the meticulous restoration work which has successfully brought Brunelde Domus Magna back to all its original splendor. The first floor of the villa is reserved for the guest accommodation, provided in just three spacious bedrooms which are characterized by massive wooden ceiling beams, floors in antique parquet and terracotta and rare items of period furniture. The careful integration of modern technology and amenities ensures faultless, hotel standard comfort.

More than in any of the other rooms, it is in Brunelde Domus Magna's "Sala della Giustizia" and "Canipa" that the history of the villa is most evident. The imposing Sala della Giustizia (Hall of Justice in Italian) is the true heart of the residence. In this large hall, which is dominated by a magnificent stone fireplace, guests can be found, armed with a good book or a glass of Friuli's superb wine, unwinding after a day spent exploring the valleys. On request, the Sala della Giustizia is available for dinner parties for as many as 45 guests. Brunelde Domus Magna's kitchen and dining room are located in the Canipa, the ancient wine cellar which houses a fascinating collection of antique farming equipment which was, until recent times, still used by the local agricultural community.

Brunelde Domus Magna's 2800sqm garden is the perfect place in which to experience the timeless charm of this peaceful corner of Friuli Venezia Giulia. In the immediate vicinity of the residence, around the small town of Fagagna, there are many pathways through the woods and hills. The area, far from the classic tourist routes, is however within easy reach of the Friuli Dolomites, Cramia, Aqulieia, Cividale, Udine and the beaches of Liganno Sabbiadoro.
