Castello di Sismano Sismano - Umbria.

Historical Residences - Hotel de Charme

Castello di Sismano Historical Residences Sismano

8500 gold florins: the sum which Cardinal Caetani paid for Castello di Sismano in the latter half of the 13th century. One of a string of fortresses built to defend the city of Todi in the middle ages, the stronghold quickly developed into a walled hamlet, inhabited by the workers employed to till the fields surrounding the castle. Over the centuries, popes, princes and politicians all resided in the castle, which has only recently been transformed into one of Umbria's most prestigious period residences.

Today, at Castello di Sismano, guest accommodation is available in a total of 16 suites and apartments, distributed in various buildings within the medieval hamlet surrounding the castle. Decorated in traditional country style, with beautiful items of handcrafted furniture, open fireplaces, and exposed ceiling beams, rooms have been carefully renovated to allow for the discreet integration of the latest in modern technology, from satellite television to internet.

A period residence and a farm. Castello di Sismano lies at the heart of a 1.000 hectare agricultural estate, a great part of which is used for the cultivation of olives and for cattle farming. The estate's highly-prized Chianina beef is best enjoyed in Castello di Sismano's renowned "I Due Papi" restaurant, which occupies buildings once used as stables. Providing the perfect introduction to Umbria's flavor-packed cuisine and with plenty of options for vegetarians, I Due Papi's menu features all of the region's best-loved specialties, accompanied by a superlative selection of local wines.

Travelers who choose Castello di Sismano for their holiday in Umbria, can expect to enjoy relaxing days and romantic nights, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. For those tempted to tie the knot in this particularly green and peaceful region of Italy, Castello di Sismano provides the idyllic setting for a fairytale wedding. Whilst many guests are loath to the leave the comfort and tranquility of the hamlet, choosing to spend much of their time strolling through the little lanes or lazing by the pool at the foot of the castle, Castello di Sismano is, nevertheless, a great base from which to explore nearby Todi and the cities of Perugia, Orvieto and Spoleto, all of which are no more than an hour's drive away.
