Castelletto di Montebenichi Bucine
Castelletto di Montebenichi
Castelletto di Montebenichi is a fascinating little castle, a number of the rooms of which have recently been transformed in superbly appointed guest accommodation. The origins of the building date back to medieval times. Indeed, since as far back in time as the 12th century, the castle of Montebenichi has dominated the hillside of this South Eastern area of the Chianti region; located between the ancient cities of Arezzo and Siena, where vineyards, olive groves and woodlands combine so as to create a quintessentially Tuscan landscape.
Each and every one of the Castle's public rooms are home to unique items of period furniture and paintings, from the owners' private collection.
A number of unique paintings and drawings from various periods in history can also be admired in the Castelletto di Montebenichi's library whilst, in the foyer of the hotel, a display cabinet containing invaluable pieces of terracotta from the Etruscan, Greek and Roman periods takes pride of place.
This extremely special four star hotel has just 9 bedrooms and suites, all beautifully furnished with a clever combination of age old period items and smart contemporary accessories. The rooms have been designed so as to offer the maximum in comfort and modern facilities including internet access.
On the first floor of the Castelletto di Montebenichi there is a magnificent loggia; a charming open gallery where an abundant buffet breakfast is served until late morning and, when requested, even in to the early hours of the afternoon.
Whilst the Hotel does not have its own restaurant, in the immediate vicinity of the castle one finds the "L'Orciaia"; a typical Tuscan eatery where the tastiest traditional local fare is served. For those wishing to purchase some local gastronomic specialities, whether as a gift or for immediate consumption, the hotel's shop, situated in the piazza directly in front of the Castle, offers a superb range of goods, from wine to the legendary Montebenichi olive oil.
In the peaceful grounds of the castle, there is an attractive swimming pool overlooking the quite stunning scenery of the surrounding Tuscan countryside, and a summer house in which a fitness room and plunge pool with Jacuzzi facility have been installed.
Castelletto di Montebenichi Location
Castelletto di Montebenichi is situated in the small district of Bucine, immersed in the countryside of Tuscany's Valdambra, half way between Arezzo and Siena. The landscape is that typical of the Chianti hillside; an area where some of the most prestigious Italian wines are produced including the highly acclaimed Chianti Classico. Just a little further a field, one finds the vineyards where the grapes for the Brunello di Montalcino and the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are cultivated.
Those travelling from the North by car along the A1 motorway should take the Valdarno exit, whilst those coming from the South should exit at Valdichiana.
Florence, Arezzo and Siena are all less than an hour's drive away as are other famous Tuscan destinations such as San Gimignano, Pienza and Cortona.
The closest train stations are those of Arezzo and Montevarchi. Siena and Bucine are situated on less frequently served railway lines.
Florence airport is located just an hour's drive away from Hotel Castelletto di Montebenichi. Driving time from Pisa airport is approximately 2 hours.
