Borgo Lucignanello (Historical Residences) San Giovanni d'Asso
Heaven made (and restored) in Tuscany
Three reasons why you'll love it here
- A medieval hamlet in the heart of the Crete Senesi
- Paolo Alberto Rossi's amazing restoration
- The 18th century farmhouse with garden and swimming pool
The history of the period residence Borgo Lucignanello is, in great part, also the history of Lucignano d'Asso: a small hamlet immersed in the Tuscan countryside, between the Crete Senesi and the Val d'Orcia. The origins of Lucignano can be traced back to the times of the ancient Romans, when it was known as Lucignanum Longassum.
A document dated 1485 demonstrates that both the castle and hamlet of Lucignano d'Asso once belonged to the powerful Piccolomini dynasty. In recent years, Borgo Lucignanello has been the subject of an important restoration project, supervised by one of Italy's most eminent architectural restorers, the architect Paolo Alberto Rossi.
Today Borgo Lucignanello has been transformed in historic resort, offering unique holiday accommodation in what, for many, is the most beautiful part of Tuscany. The old houses, outbuildings, and granary have been converted in 5 well-appointed apartments, all furnished in traditional Tuscan style; with hand painted ceramics, terracotta floor tiles, characteristic open fireplaces, exposed wooden beams, and bathrooms in local travertine.
Frescoes, trompe d'oeil motifs, and jacquard textiles are just some of the luxurious touches guest can expect to find in their rooms. The careful integration of modern technology and a full range of hotel quality accessories make Lucignanello Bandini the perfect choice for the contemporary traveler.
Casale Sarageto is an independent apartment realized in the 18th century farmhouse situated just outside the hamlet. Wonderfully spacious and pleasingly secluded, the Casale is the ideal Tuscan retreat for those wishing to enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside, in the company of family or friends. The apartment is equipped with four guest bedrooms, a kitchen, living room, and a garden complete with fabulous private pool.
On warm summer days, Borgo Lucignanello's large swimming pool, positioned high up on the hillside, offers an idyllic spot where to relax whilst admiring the spectacular views over the Tuscan countryside.
